Sid- unknown - he's napping
26 degrees
This morning we had a restful breakfast with very good coffee. This is where we are staying in Tomar
The hostel is new and clean and we have a private room on the second floor with a balcony
Our balcony ....with our shoes having a much needed rest
We bid Mr & Mrs Brazil a Buen Caminio as they continue with their journey, we hope to meet up with them again in a few days
We walked to the train station to check the schedule to Lisbon and bought two tickets for 9.50 euro each. We will get to view the exact route we just completed walking...departure time is 10:10 am.
From the train station we walked up to
A World Heritage site
The Convent was founded by the Templar Knights in 1118 and was completed at the end of the 12th century
Some cool photos
There was even a wedding on site
The view going up the stair case
Somewhere in the following picture is the tree of life or Jesse tree. I'd be exaggerating if I said I understood 5% of either the Templar history or symbolism. No matter ....the structure and the craftsmanship is awe inspiring
The Templars must have been of short stature , Sid is standing by one of the dormitory doors
The vats used to store olive oil
The view of Tomar from the castle
We have lunch on the street of our home for two nights, where we meet and chat up two women from Ireland.
This is what I found out about eculyptus trees - most varieties grow in Austrailia. They are both fast growing and invasive (funny how those two attributes usually belong together). They are often grown and harvested for wood or wood products, they can be cut to the ground and new growth comes from the root. The oil of eculyptus comes from dried leaves.....a fire in an eculyptus forest burns quickly!
We are doing good and enjoying a day of rest. We have had many messages of support, one from a gal we met while in Spain ...she said she was praying to St Anthony - the patron saint of lost things, and her good friend! That made me giggle a bit.
Sid remains totally supportive, I am doing my best to not get voted off the island!
I do love your sense of humour. Hope you don't get voted off too. Good luck with the passport resolution. Kathy and I had to taxi back to a previous town as she'd left her special phone charger behind. It was sobering that a full day's walking took us 20 mins in the taxi.
