Atalaia - Tomar 27.04 km Friday October 7

Ardi - 37,595 steps
Sid - 31,695 steps

28 degrees

Yesterday we met 2 girls from Austria on the Lisbon- Santiago walk.  We asked them how they were doing- they said they were great.  They walk 20 km, find a bar and taxi ahead! I heartily agree with their logic!

Last evening we walked to a restaurant nearby where a nice young man that spoke pretty good English looked after us.  I asked if he took English in school, he said he did but learned most of his English from movies and video games.  Which was a very similar comment that we heard from our Chinese Great Wall tour guides.  Interesting!  We ordered cod and vegetables for supper but didn't realize that one order was meant for two people....too bad

Mr and Mrs Brazil are still our travel companions , unfortunately for us she speaks no English .  She and one or two of her children walked the camino Frances this spring.  This is his first walk.  They do not have a guide book.  He only uses his phone and a print out of accommodations, but they both speak Portuguese

Our walk this morning
Through the euculyptus trees, they are so mystical. We saw a truck loaded with harvested euculyptus logs, wondering what they would be used for, maybe wood chips?

We somehow lost our way marked path and ended up on the hi way, which took us to the same destination, just tough walking.  I cannot believe how long each day feels

We get to our town Tomar on the Nabao River
Tomar is a medieval  pilgrim town and the most perfect example of Templar layout and architecture to survive to this day
And the street we are living on at the moment , which has a lot going on....

By now I have beat myself up pretty solidly about the passport issue.  It's still missing.  Today in Tomar we filed a police report with the PSP (federal?). Mr One Star Policia, who could speak almost no English asked me what I wanted him to do about my lost passport.  Which FYI...as soon as you don't have a passport in a foriegn country you are an alien.  Checking in today we had to explain the whole situation to desk girl, she had to phone her boss, and thankfully, I could stay
Anyways Mr Three Star Policia came along , who spoke some English, helped us all out.  He was so kind, he said its just all part of the journey. I now have a document that says I am not an alien....even though I certainly look like an alien...
Mr Three Star Policia explained that if someone turns it in I will be notified by email .  We are hoping for that outcome in the next couple of days.  We are spending an extra night in Tomar, if it doesn't turn up by Sunday morning we will get on a train and head to Lisbon for a replacement.  I am certainly not the first Canuck to have a missing passport.  After it is replaced we intend to bus or train back to where we should be if we had walked.
We are disappointed ...but it is what it is...our journey will continue!

Tommorrow will give us an opportunity for rest and to explore the town!

  1. Progress on your passport then. Will going back to Lisbon then picking up your walking again once you've finished mess up your timeline much? Did you have wriggle room in your schedule?
