Santarem - Azinhaga -31.36 km October 5

Ardi 43,013 steps
Sid 36,621 steps

31 degrees

Last evening we had a great dinner prepared by Miguel and his crew

Left to right Mr and Mrs Brazil, sgt,  Mr Toronto, Mr and Mrs Italy and Miss Equador, who is biking the camino.  We had an appetizer of a fish pate on delish bread, squash soup, a fish bake and salad with what tasted like a creme burle pie...served with some kind of tasty melon for desert. All excellent . The breakfast was pretty darn good too!

We got away a bit late his morning.  The view from our balcony
And saying good buy to Miguel
The streets of Santarem
Our path today was pleasant....we thought we would try to split the next 2 - 30km days into three 20 km days...it didn't work out.  We walked through many fields of dreams .  Corn, tomato, melon, sunflower , red pepper and vineyards of course.  We both even had a couple of bunches of grapes, they didn't disappoint!  31 is a nice temp if you have a breeze and shade....for quite a bit of the time we had neither .  And we were actually lost at one point.

Today's earthly angel was Mr Brazil.  He and his wife were lost too....but he had an app and even more luckily he speaks Portuguese  ( but not much English ). No matter ...we stuck to him like glue!
Again, at one point we were out of water...not a good thing...and Mr Brazil spotted a water source!
In the past days I have noticed banks of morning glories
Growing in the most unlikely places.  Clearly I killed mine with kindness

Mr Brazil guides us to accommodations, we opt for a traditional Portuguese supper....we are too exhausted to do anything else.

We are doing pretty good but both have a list of owies....for all of the advice we gave others about shoes, socks, and lack of blisters and our cleverness in addressing those issues....well that's not really working out for us right now!

But....our feet are dry!,

  1. Not surprising you have some owies on your feet after the kms you are doing. And it being hot wont help either. Here's hoping for cool breezes and shorter days to come for you.
