Our airport shuttle arrived, operated by the Talsma's of The Lakes, at 2:30. They delivered us safely to YYC and all went well. We flew across Canada and sailed over the Atlantic quite seamlessly. We flew with West Jet and the bird was full! We landed at London Gatwick at 10:30 am local time. What I thought was a 3 hour layover was actually a 7 hour layover. I believe my original calculations were correct...but I chose to not really remember that detail...7 hours is along time to hang around an airport when you have already missed a night of sleep.
Gatwick seemed like a large airport and was very busy. I logged 6671 steps...nearly all airport steps!
We walk the premises in search of breakfast or lunch and found this
A Jamie Oliver restaurant ! After standing in line for some length of time and reviewing the menu we chose breakfast . Bacon, sausages, potatoes, beans, grilled tomatoes and one cup of coffee. It tasted delish... The $46.00 price tag gave us a bit of sticker shock!
Eventually we prepared to board our Easy Jet 2 hour flight for Lisbon. Easy Jet has outsmarted themselves. They are so persnickety about baggage fees that they end up not being able to accommodate the carry on bags. So if you choose to check your bags ...you get priority boarding. Face palm already!
Sid and I both slept all the way to Lisbon. A bus shuttled us from the plane to the airport (same set up as 2007!). From the airport we took a taxi to our accommodations. After Sid generously tipped the taxi driver she took us right up to the Pension....otherwise we would still be there looking.. 24 hours after leaving Lacombe we had arrived.
The accommodations were ok, but not great. Came with free wifi...except it didn't work.... And breakfast
Hope you caught up on sleep before hitting the trail.
