Lisbon - Alverca - 39.33 km. October 2

Ardi - 55,836 steps
Sid - 46,089 steps...24.5 miles

We didn't expect this to be such a long day...at the moment my calves are crying and my thighs are thundering, and for the first time ever, while walking, I heard Sid utter discomfort!

We left Lisbon at 8:45 this morning.

We came across 2 other pilgrims early in our walk ( identified by her carrying the same guide book as us) but they took a right turn and we took a left turn and we never saw them again.

It was a long day. For some time we followed the Rio Tejo
We had beautiful weather...maybe around 22...but it felt warmer and thankfully we had a nice breeze all day.  We stopped for lunch at 2 pm / 22 km and talked to a couple from Norway that have walked pretty much every where in the world.  She was doing some work in Lisbon so they were doing a day trip.

Our walk today was about 70% city, concrete, cobblestone or asphalt .  So very noisy and hard walking.  And most sadly, my beloved blackberry snack source are all dried up.  Very sad face.

Finally we arrive at our lodging.  And because we haven't quite walked enough...and it's Sunday there are no restaurants open so we have to walk back to the grocery store for sustanance...We both limp to our home for the night...which is very clean and comfortable!

On the upside we buy Douro Valley wine for only 3 euros!

We shall see what a rest and tomorrow brings!
