Azinhaga - Atalaia 22.42 km Thrusday October 6

  Ardi - 30,685 steps
Sid - 28,470 steps ( he went to find lunch after we checked in)

29 degrees

We had a much shorter day today.  And it felt pretty good, our legs are getting stronger and our feet...well they are still attached to our legs.  Sadly the truth of the matter is, I think , is that we were in better physical condition 3 years ago!

We had an early start this morning so we beat a bit of the heat.  We can see that new crops are planted next to crops ready for harvest, continuous cropping I guess
A church at the center of Golega
Our beautiful path
At one point we see the Portuguese people picking a peck of peppers
Over a tributary
And finally to our destination for tonight

When we left home I thought the worst health issue I would have is looking after the nail bed on my big toe as the nail was recently removed .  We have used quite a few blister bandaids and several regular bandaids and are holding the whole works together with duct tape. The big toe is doing fine.

I also thought the worst thing to lose would be my phone.  Today we discovered that my passport is missing.  It is so strange because I always keep it in my money belt.  This morning when we checked out I didn't have it, but I did have it the day before.  We contacted the previous lodging and they were unable to find it, thankfully  they were able to send us a copy of the photo copy of our passports they had on file. I didn't have a copy with me (lesson learned) .  I also checked Sid's passport to see who we listed as contacts...its blank. I have no other photo ID with me, only 2 credit cards and a debit card. Shortly we are going to report the loss to the police.  We are hopeful my  passport will turn up in the next few days.  If not we will head back to Lisbon to deal with what needs to happen to obtain a replacement.

I am deeply disappointed.

  1. Oh no. A missing passport. That has got to be a huge distraction. I hope you manage to locate it. I get quite out of sorts when something like that happens. As to your feet, the potential problem toe sounds like it's holding up while the rest needs the good old Canadian duct tape treatment I wondered about the step count with the gap between you and Sid being less. His getting lunch explained it.
